                DCPW Communication set-up consists of 31 Inter State Police Wireless stations at  all state/UT capitals with its control station at New Delhi india.

               DCPW provides a communication network for hooking up all the state capitals with the national capital. A list of 31 I.S.P.W. stations and other permanent establishments are :

            The traffic handled by this Directorate, includes messages pertaining to law & order, Lok Sabha / Assembly/ Panchayat elections, Union Budget transmission, movement/security of VVIPS/VIPs, narcotics, natural calamities, strikes, census etc. It is a matter of pride that this Directorate being a vital communication wing of the Ministry of Home Affairs has been maintaining uninterrupted secure and reliable communication since its inception in 1946. Various communication systems like wireless telegraphy, PC based electronic teleprinters , Packet Radios, BEST and AMSS  are  used for maintaining round the clock communication.

 

 

B.      Advisory Functions

 

              DCPW renders advice to the Ministry of Home Affairs on matters related to the Police Telecommunications besides examining/vetting all the proposals of CPOs/State Police Organisations. This Directorate have successfully planned and executed special communication set-up for VVIP Security during SAARC, CHOGM, NAM, ASIAD, G-15 etc.

 

C.      Planning & Coordination

 

            DCPW lays down technical specifications for all the communication equipments and accessories used by various Police Forces in country and also formulates technical training standards for them. It also ensures proper utilisation of `Modernisation Grant’ given to the states & UTs allotted for modernisation of Police communications. The Directorate also coordinates the allocation and usage of Radio Frequencies for Police Telecommunications being used by Para Military  and Police Forces in the country and also obtaining site clearance from WPC. Organises biennial `Police Radio Officers’ conference for interaction and guidance in latest developments in the field of telecommunication.

 

D      Assistance to States/ Union Territories.

 

                Renders technical assistance to the Central, State/UT Police organizations for procurement of communication equipments and accessories. DCPW maintains a Reserve Stock of equipments to help these organizations during emergency situations like Lok Sabha / Assembly / Panchayat elections, Law & Order problems, Natural calamities etc.
